( 3 REVIEWS )ABOUT THE COURSECities worldwide perform multidimensional functions which make them a beehive of activities both social and economic. To guide against the multiplicity of problems confronting capital cities in general, it is imperative that the present growth and development be properly monitored, managed and controlled. One way to achieve this objective is to harness all relevant survey data useful for planning and decision-making purposes. Because planning data are in general vast, vary across space and are multidimensional, the need for an integrative framework for data management and analysis becomes important. Such a framework is readily provided with the use of geographic information systems. This framework forms the bedrock for the development of Land Information Systems (LIS) which can be described as the basic minimum requirement for efficient planning of any capital city.By the end of the course, you will understand the range of Arc GIS Desktop functionality and be prepared to work with the software on your own to create GIS maps, work with geographic data, and perform GIS analysis. The office of the Surveyor General, Ministry of Land, Ministry of Environment, Housing Authority/agencies stand to benefit from the development of a LIS.
